Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-07-25
1. Who we are
Iconic Voices ("we", "us", "our") is an audiobook service: a growing library of classic public-domain works read in 40+ iconic voices, available on this website, in the web player at iconicvoices.io/app, and in the free Iconic Voices apps for iOS and Android.
The service is operated by Alexander Lastochkin, an individual entrepreneur (sole trader) based in Dnipro, Ukraine, publishing under the name Iconic Voices. He is the person you are contracting with, and the same person who holds the Apple Developer account the iOS app is published under. Written contact: [email protected]; the full postal address is supplied on request to that address.
These terms govern your use of the website, the web player, and the apps. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them.
2. Eligibility and age
You must be at least 18 years old to make purchases. You may use the service with an account if you are at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA) and have parental consent. If you use the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
3. Accounts
An account requires an email address and password (authentication is provided by Supabase Auth). You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and your email address accurate and under your control. You can change your email in Settings → Account and delete your account at any time — see iconicvoices.io/delete-account.
4. Purchases and subscriptions
There are two separate ways to pay for Iconic Voices and different rules apply to each, because a different company takes your money. Read the one that matches how you paid. Whichever it is, what you unlock belongs to your Iconic Voices account and appears everywhere you sign in with it.
4.1 Purchases on this website
- Currently unavailable — nothing can be bought on this website today. The checkout is switched off for everyone while we change payment providers. You can join the notify list on any book page and we will email you when it reopens.
- When it reopens: single books and bundles will be one-time purchases (pay once, keep access for as long as your account exists), and website subscriptions will auto-renew at the interval and price shown at checkout until you cancel in Settings → Billing — you keep access until the end of the paid period and are not charged again.
- Payment processing is handled by our payment processor, named at checkout and on your receipt. We never receive your card details.
- Refunds for website purchases are governed by our Refund Policy, which is incorporated into these terms by reference (14-day money-back guarantee).
- Subscriptions taken out on the website before the pause continue unaffected and can be cancelled at any time.
4.2 Subscription bought inside the iOS app (Apple In-App Purchase)
- The iOS app offers an auto-renewable subscription to the Iconic Voices library, sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. It is the only thing sold inside any of our apps; the Android app sells nothing.
- The price, the billing period and the currency are shown to you by the App Store on the subscription screen before you confirm, and they are the authoritative ones — not any figure on this website. The charge goes to your Apple Account.
- It renews automatically for the same period at the same price until you cancel. Apple takes the renewal payment within 24 hours before the current period ends. Cancelling later than that takes effect from the following period.
- Apple is the seller of record. Apple holds your payment method, takes the payment, issues the receipt and handles any applicable VAT or sales tax. We never see your card details, and we cannot start, change or stop an Apple charge.
- Cancel or switch plan in your Apple Account: apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions (on an iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting your Iconic Voices account does not cancel an App Store subscription — cancel it with Apple first, or Apple will keep charging you (see Delete account).
- Refunds are issued by Apple, not by us, under Apple's own terms and at Apple's discretion. Ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Our Refund Policy — including its 14-day money-back guarantee — applies to website purchases only; we have no way to return money Apple holds.
- A subscription is bound to the Iconic Voices account that was signed in when it was bought, and that binding cannot be moved by restoring it elsewhere. If "Restore purchases" tells you the subscription belongs to a different account, sign in with that account or email [email protected].
- The subscription is sold in the App Store storefronts where the app is published. Your use of the iOS app itself is additionally governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement; the licence in §5, the AI disclosure in §6 and the acceptable use rules in §7 apply to the audio however you paid for it.
5. Your license to the audio
When you buy or subscribe, we grant you a personal, non-commercial, non-transferable license to stream the audio and, in the apps, download it for offline listening, for your own personal use. The license does not permit re-distribution, public performance, broadcast, resale, or use of the audio to train machine-learning systems.
6. The voices (AI disclosure)
Every book on Iconic Voices carries one of three labels, shown before you press play:
- Restored from real recordings — the narration is AI-generated using a voice model built from surviving archival recordings of the author's own voice. The full audiobook is AI-generated audio; it is a restoration, not a surviving recording.
- Studio AI voice — an interpretive AI narration. Where no authentic recording of the author survives, we say so and a studio-designed AI voice reads the book.
- Disputed historical recording — the source recording's attribution is historically contested, and we label it as such.
Every narration we publish is AI-generated audio — a restoration or a studio AI voice, never a lost archival recording and never a human narrator — and every book is labelled before you press play. You should never assume you are hearing the author's actual surviving voice. Full details, including how to request removal of a voice, are in our Voice Rights & AI Disclosure.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, bulk-download, or resell audio or metadata from our catalog
- Re-distribute, broadcast, or create derivative works from our narrations without written permission
- Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or reproduce our voice models
- Share account credentials or circumvent entitlement checks
- Submit automated or fraudulent form entries
- Use the service for any unlawful, harassing, or discriminatory purpose
8. Intellectual property
The underlying texts we narrate are in the public domain. The narrations themselves, our voice models, platform code, website and app design, and branding are the property of Iconic Voices. See Voice Rights for how we handle right-of-publicity and removal requests.
9. Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially breach these terms (for example, credential sharing or bulk scraping); where reasonable we will warn you first. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund a pro-rated share of any active website subscription. If your subscription was bought through Apple we cannot refund it ourselves — we will tell you, so that you can claim the unused part from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, and you should cancel the subscription at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions so Apple stops billing you.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your statutory consumer rights.
11. Dispute resolution
If you have a dispute, email [email protected] first — we aim to resolve most issues informally within 7 business days. If informal resolution fails, disputes will be handled in the courts of the jurisdiction in §12. Consumers retain any statutory right to bring claims in their own country of residence.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine, where the operator named in §1 is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. This does not deprive you of the protection of any mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence, and a consumer may bring proceedings in the courts of their own country of residence.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If changes are material, we will notify account holders by email at least 14 days before they take effect and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms: [email protected]. Support: [email protected] or the Support page. Voice takedown or removal requests: [email protected] (see Voice Rights).
